Our guest preacher, the Rev. Bentley Stewart, preaches on the entire epistle of Philemon, one of the more obscure books of the New Testament. It is a letter that has been used, over the years (especially in the 19th C) as a legal support of slavery. The traditional interpretation of this letter is that it is an intercession that Paul wrote to an irate slave master on behalf of his repentant runaway slave, pointing out that Onesimus was, indeed, his brother in Christ. Bentley uses this as a way for us to stand courageously and proclaim that, indeed, black lives matter.
