In the second in the series, Half Truths, Russ looks at the cliche, "God Helps Those Who Help Themselves." This phrase is so much a part of the common Christian ethos that when the Barna Group took a poll and asked people what are the most widely known Bible verses, this phrase was near the top. The only problem with that, of course, is that this saying is not found in the bible.
Even though it isn’t in the bible, that doesn’t mean there there’s no truth in it.
In fact, in one sense, it does capture a biblical teaching. But in a couple other ways it is absolutely UN-true and sends direct opposite message.
What we see over and over again in scripture is that God helps those that can't help themselves.
