Movie Discussion Night: The Asian Americans

  • First Christian Church, Concord 3039 Willow Pass Road Concord, CA, 94519 United States (map)

As we continue to work toward being an anti-racist/pro-reconciling church, we turn our attention to our Asian-American and Pacific Island siblings. The best way to understand the root causes of the recent rise in anti-Asian violence is to understand the history and learn ways we can best be allies. We will, over several weeks, discuss the PBS series, “The Asian Americans.” Please click the series title to go to the PBS series website. The five-part series is now streaming at PBS.org. Please watch Episode 1: BREAKING GROUND before the meeting on April 28th. “In an era of exclusion and U.S. empire, new immigrants arrive from China, India, Japan, the Philippines and beyond. Barred by anti-Asian laws they become America’s first “undocumented immigrants,” yet they build railroads, dazzle on the silver screen, and take their fight for equality to the U.S. Supreme Court.” Inverleith Fruci will help lead the discussion. If you have not been participating in previous movie discussion, we want to welcome you to this conversation. Please email Meg Sumowiec or Pastor Leslie so we can send you the discussion questions.
